The David Warner vs Andrew Tye Duel (2010-11)

The inaugural season of the Big Bash League was a thrilling affair, with some memorable moments. But one game in particular, between the Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers, is particularly iconic.

The game was a tight contest, and it came down to the final over. Warner had just smashed a six off Tye to bring the Sixers within two runs of victory. Tye was brought back on to try and defend the title.

Warner duly dispatched the first ball for another six, but then Tye got his revenge, bowling Warner’s next ball to win the match for the Scorchers. The duel between Warner and Tye is one of the most iconic moments in BBL history.

Adam Gilchrist’s Blazing Fifty in BBL|03

Number two on our list is Adam Gilchrist’s brilliantly quick fifty against the Perth Scorchers in BBL|03. Coming in at number seven in the all-time list of fastest Big Bash fifties, Gilchrist’s knock came off just 21 balls and included five sixes and three fours.

What made this innings even more special was the fact that it came in a match-winning performance; the Sydney Sixers went on to win by nine wickets. This inning is a perfect example of why Gilchrist is considered one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

The D’Arcy Short Show (BBL|07)

The D’Arcy Short Show was the moment that everyone started to take notice of the Big Bash League. Short, a 26-year-old from Western Australia, had always been a talented player, but it was in BBL|07 that he truly shone. He smashed 643 runs at an average of 64.3, including two centuries and 11 half-centuries.

His innings against the Hobart Hurricanes in January 2018 were particularly spectacular. Chasing 328 to win, Short led the Perth Scorchers to an incredible victory with an unbeaten 101 off just 50 balls. His innings included 11 sixes and 5 fours, and he is still considered one of the most memorable in BBL history.

Chris Lynn’s Incredible Knock in BBL|06

Number four on our list is Chris Lynn’s incredible knock in the 2016-17 BBL season. With his team, the Brisbane Heat, needing to chase down a total of 190 runs in 14.5 overs, it seemed like a nearly impossible task. But Lynn, who was already having an impressive season with the bat, stepped up and delivered a stunning performance that would be remembered for years to come.

He finished the innings with an explosive 81 runs off just 35 balls, which included six sixes and five fours – making him the first-ever batsman to achieve this feat in Big Bash history. Not only did he help his team cross the line but he also gave them enough momentum to go all the way and win their second-ever title that year.

Shane Watson’s Heroics in BBL|04

At number five on our list, we have the heroic efforts of former Australian cricketer Shane Watson in the Big Bash League’s fourth season. After having a slow start to the tournament, Watson went on to become the season’s top run-scorer, racking up 371 runs at an impressive average of 30.91. His performance in the semi-final against Melbourne Stars was particularly memorable. Needing 17 off the last over to win, Watson hit two sixes to take his team over the line and into the final.
